Hi, Everybody,
In this article we will be reviewing three popular brands and give the insider information about what to expect from each brand. There will also be some of our favorite products or recommendations linked throughout the blog to assist you in learning more about each beauty brand and what we think is the best of the best from each!
Glossier
Glossier is one of the most popular makeup brands at the moment, and we can see why. Just browsing the website makes me feel more calm and relaxed, with the crisp images and simple but adorable designs. As fellow Glossier enthusiast Lily Meierhoefer says, “I know Glossier often gets a bad rep for not actually being a solid skincare brand and being more about the aesthetics. Though I see what people are saying, it’s hard not to love it. I mean- the pink packaging, the stickers-it’s all so cute! On that note- I really love Glossier’s philosophy and simplicity behind both their products and their company culture. I’ve found that their products do the job for me, but I will say that I have pretty unproblematic skin to begin with. For their prices, I think they are worth it! My favorite products are the Milky Jelly Cleanser, the Boy Brow, all of the serums, the solution, and OF COURSE the Balm Dot Com. Also Emily Weiss (CEO and Founder of Glossier) is the absolute coolest!”
I couldn’t have said it better, and I encourage everyone to check out Emily’s instagram (she really is SO cool). Personally, I am also a HUGE fan of the Balm DotCom collection. I have the birthday balm dot com, which has a subtle glitter to it as well as a yummy cake-like flavor. These are fairly priced, at $12 for one container. The flavors range from Rose, Mint, Mango, and many others. These are super versatile, can go with anything, work as moisturizer and beauty, and don’t require a large quantity to show their sparkle, making them worth it, in my opinion. The overall vibe that you get from using the products as well as browsing the website is very positive, and the products make me feel super cute while still being simple, clean and not at all overdone. Although I don’t have this (sadly), I think a great option from their website could be “The Makeup Set,” which includes the Boy Brow, Cloud Paint (blush) and Lash Slick (mascara), in colors of your choice. Also, buying these items in the set is a great way to get makeup essentials as well as save some money by buying all of them together. Overall Glossier provides simple, elegant, essential and classic makeup products. I highly recommend taking a look!
I mean, look at this adorable packaging! So simple and classic, but so cute.
Fenty
I am obsessed with Fenty to say the least. I mean, it’s Rihanna. Everything I’ve gotten from there, I’ve loved. My first buy was the “Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer'' in the color FU$$Y and It’s my favorite lip gloss ever. The cute pink and simple shimmer is the perfect combo that you could wear day or night to add a little glamour. A little coat, and you’re good to go! Afterwards, I decided to try out the “Pro Filt'r Hydrating Longwear Foundation'' and it’s my favorite foundation yet. It’s weightless, super soft on your skin, melts in, and comes in 50 different shades. Not only that, but the highlight is amazing. One simple swipe of the “Freestyle Highlighter Duo”, I have mean money/hu$tla baby, and you are ready to go. Everything I’ve tried out from Fenty Beauty has been amazing and although the prices are a bit high, I think they’re worth it and will last you a long time. Not only that but Rihanna has also launched Fenty Skin, starting with three simple products: a toner, cleanser, and moisturizer. Fenty Skin prides itself on clean, vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, refillable, and recyclable materials. I haven’t tried out the products yet, but they’ve all received amazing reviews and if you’d like to try them out, I would start with the Fenty Skin Start'r Set which includes all three products for $40.
Rare Beauty
The highly anticipated release of Selena Gomez’s makeup line, Rare Beauty is finally out and here are our thoughts on the brand. After spending lots of time on Youtube watching makeup tutorials and Gomez show off her beauty products, I was extremely excited to try it out. Her brand is known for its many inclusive shades (around 48 different colors for foundation and concealer) and affordable prices that range from $14-29. Many rave about her sparkly and fun highlight and amazingly seamless weightless foundation. I excitedly purchased the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in the color “Happy” but having never tried the color on my skin tone before, it did not work out well. In my experience, the blush was super pigmented and almost looked like a rash once on my face, but I think it was because of the color I chose. Although the product did feel weightless, it was also a little hard to spread around once on my face and I ended up returning it. I probably won’t end up getting another blush from there, but I am definitely still open to trying out some of her other products. Once I need to refill on a certain beauty product, I’ll be sure to check out Rare Beauty first!
We hope you enjoyed reading our reviews of these makeup brands, and hopefully you feel more educated about them and are excited to try some new products!
Happy makeuping,
FIona and Serena
