Bubble Tea Recommendations

A picture of Yi Fang’s yakult, pineapple and green tea drink with boba.

Since we were young, bubble tea has always been an integral part of our lives. After numerous years of never-ending searches for the best tea in town, we compiled some flavors from our favorite stores:

  • KungFu Tea: https://www.kungfutea.com

    • Rating: 3.8/5

    • KungFu Tea, being one of the most popular bubble tea chains in the area, is obviously a little more expensive than other lesser known brands. The toppings are not included in the price, so don’t be tricked by the sale strategy! However, the store does have a very clean and refreshing taste to its milk teas. If you’re looking for a calming, spiritual relaxation, I would highly recommend the milk green tea- it makes you feel like all your worries about homework and tests have melted into… well, milk green tea!

  • Gong Cha: 255 N Washington St, Rockville, MD 20850

    • Rating: 4.2/5

    • The teas here are definitely sweeter and have less milk. They put a heavier emphasis on the tea’s natural flavour instead of flooding the drink with milk. Most of the toppings are included in the listed price, and it is a lot less expensive than KungFu Tea. The location listed above, in Rockville Town Center (just because we live close to it), is inside The Spot, making it a convenient choice for grabbing lunch with family or friends and having some bubble tea right there!

  • Bubbles & Tea: 1319 Rockville Pike B, Rockville, MD 20852

    • Rating: 4.4/5

    • This store is a relatively small, local store with a fun, lively setting. The drinks there are similar in taste to Gong Cha- with heavier tea taste than milk-, and they also sell Chinese style ice creams and shaved ice that are worth a try on hot summer days. The store also features comfy couches and board games to play while sitting with friends. Overall, it is a nice place to hang out with friends because you won’t be staring at your phone the entire time.

  • Tea-Do: 838 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852

    • Rating: 4/5

    • Tea-Do takes a similar approach as Bubbles & Tea by crafting a bar-like set up (there’s no alcohol if you don’t ask) so that customers can play cards and games at the tables or watch soccer or basketball at the bar. Personally, I really enjoy the slushes at the store because they’re a perfect mix of not too watery and not too icy. My recommendation would be the Japanese green tea slush, but I know some people don’t enjoy the underlying bitter taste of matcha, so if you are those some people, don’t fret. The Tiger Milk tea is also high on my list of recommendations. What is it? Well, you’ll have to go find out!

  • Jumbo Jumbo: https://jumbojumbocafe.com/jumbo-jumbo-cafe-asia-taste-main-store

    • 15192 Frederick Rd, Rockville, MD 20850

    • Rating: 4/5

    • This store also has really good Taiwanese fried chicken, in addition to bubble tea. The bubble tea “bases” here taste more artificial, but they do have a richer taste. And, the taro milk tea with boba is definitely the way to go!

  • Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea: 777 Hungerford Dr, Rockville, MD 20850

    • Rating: 3.5/5

    • Recently opened store!

    • The Yakult Pineapple Green Tea drink with boba was good, but I felt like there was too much ice in my drink even though I asked for less ice. Would still recommend it, though!
