If I still owned pictures of me with my 7th grade acne, I would put them on here… Unfortunately, I deleted them all. After years of experimentation, I have settled on a set skincare routine that keeps my skin healthy and relatively acne-free, and I would like to share it with you all.
Every night, I spend at least ten minutes just taking care of my skin. Just ask anyone who has ever had to share a bathroom with me. Although this may seem excessive for a fresh-faced eighteen-year-old like I am, I really enjoy this time. There’s something very soothing about my skincare routine. It’s my “me time.” Every weekend, I do a face mask or two, and I feel renewed as the grime and toxins get whisked away!
I wanted to take this opportunity to share my weekend skincare routine and live out my sixth grade dream of being an online-beauty-guru. Don’t lie. I know you went through this phase too.
Take off your makeup!
Such a simple task yet so important. I’ve found that the makeup-removing wipes are way too irritating for my skin, so I recommend a makeup-removing balm or oil.
Wash your face
Yeah. Pretty self-explanatory.
Face Mask(s) for Maximum Pamper-Sesh Enjoyment
For maximum pamper-sesh enjoyment. I always double mask because after a detoxifying mask, my skin is PARCHED, so I have to follow it with a hydrating mask.
Toner
There are so many different toners out there, so just find one that works for your skin. OR you can try out this homemade recipe that I use:
- 3 parts water
- 1 part raw apple cider vinegar
- 5 drops of tea tree oil
It stinks a bit because of the vinegar, but it works wonders to turn your skin clear!
Serum
Again, there are a bunch of serums out there for different purposes, and they are definitely an additional step, but if you have dark spots or acne/spot scars, use any renewing or Vitamin C serum. The Estee Lauder one I use is quite pricey, but it’s the only thing that has helped with my acne scarring. My mom also uses it if you need additional testimonial!
Moisturizer
No matter what your skin type is, you must moisturize! If you have oily skin though, I recommend a gel-based moisturizer. I use a thicker moisturizer at night so that I wake up with that ~dewy glow~.
Eye-Cream
This is not just a step for people worried about wrinkles! The skin around your eyes is super thin and gets dried out easily! Take care of it!
Spot Treatment
This is where my dermatologist comes in. I use prescription strength Benzoyl Peroxide all over my face at night to treat acne. If you don’t have the desire or time to see a dermatologist, Peter Thomas Roth, Neutrogena and Murad make some great spot treatment products too!
Consistency is Key. Once you find products that work for you, stick to them, and don’t get lazy! Keep up with your customized skincare routine!
